Linnalabor (EST) and the developers of SocMap.com (LV) cordially invite you to the Estonian and Latvian urbanists’ summer days 2011!

The weekend event will take place on August 20th and 21st in the beautiful seaside resort of Kabli in southwest Estonia, 13 km from the Latvian border. The programme, aiming to ignite cross-border communication and co-operation, will include a Pecha Kucha session, teamworking and an idea fair cushioned by the leisure and pleasure of summertime beach, sports, sauna and socialising.

The summer days is part of the Estonian-Latvian co-operation project initiated by Linnalabor with the aim of bringing together the neighbouring countries’ experts of everything urban: architecture, planning, landscape, everyday culture, art, politics, transportation, communities, public space, flyposting, skateboarding etc.

Outline

Pecha kucha

The summer days will be an event of meeting and getting to know each other. For that purpose we will start with a pecha kucha session: an open-mic type of casual presentations session with each presenter being allowed 20 slides and 20 seconds for each slide (a total of 20 x 20 seconds). We will be looking forward to seeing images of and hearing about your personal interests in your field of study, your research, your projects, your visions, etc. We will love to hear about your person instead of an institution. Team work session

After getting to know the more stage-loving of us, we will form teams for dialogue, discussion and further acquainting. Occasionally the teams will be switched and reformed, shuffling the participants for maximum contacts and topics.

Idea fair

The summer days will be topped by an idea fair on Sunday morning where team work results will be presented, a vote taken and prizes won. The ideas will build up a common pot of dreams and visions of the future cooperation between Baltic urbanists.

Finissage

We will end with a grand finale of conclusions, the satisfied appetite for new information and contacts, and the sparks of a long-awaited cross-border synergy!

a rental bus is available from (a) Pärnu to Kabli and (b) Riga to Kabli; more information coming up! To reserve a seat in the bus, please send an e-mail to Kerli Müürisepp (kerli /at/ linnalabor . ee) indicating the route (Pärnu-Kabli and back or Riga-Kabli and back).

Lemmeranna guesthouse offers diverse accommodation: from private twin-rooms to 5-people rooms with shared bathrooms. There is the main house, the sauna house and small cottages to choose from. Please indicate your preferences - if you have any - in the registration form.
